Description:  

The University of California, Merced is the newest and tenth campus of the University of California system and the first American research university built in the 21st century. With approximately 2,600 students, UC Merced has planned for additional student growth until we reach an enrollment of approximately 25,000 students. With undergraduate, graduate, and PhD programs, plans for a future medical school program, partnerships and community involvement, the UC Merced campus is continually evolving, requiring talented, knowledgeable and dynamic educators, researchers, management and staff.

Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Admissions – Outreach, and limited reporting to Assistant Directors of Admissions, the Admissions Advisor will recruit students for UC Merced; act as a representative of UC Merced and the University of California; organize and collaborate with the events coordinator with conferences and events; projects and activities; collect and analyze data; track and evaluate program effectiveness and develop strategies to meet recruitment goals. The incumbent will also develop and implements regional logic model for designated area that aligns with the Office of Admissions' overall strategic goals. The staff member will effectively utilize databases, and web-based tools for recruitment activities. The Admissions Advisor must work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes conflicting deadlines. The incumbent shall at all times demonstrate cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisor. The incumbent will also evaluate transcripts in the admissions process.

Qualifications:   REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to exercise independent judgment in applying a variety of procedural guidelines.
• Analytical skills to make accurate and consistent interpretations of a broad variety of academic and administrative procedures.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including awareness of cross-cultural and intercultural distinctions that affect interactions with a diverse population.
• Excellent decision-making ability in the absence of specifically defined rules.
• Strong organizational skills to establish priorities and complete assignments under pressure of time constraints and competing deadlines.
• Ability to clearly present complex, technical information and issues in professional settings.
• Excellent presentation skills sufficient to convey information clearly and respond appropriately to a variety of audiences. Ability to prepare and present targeted admission materials as needed for specific majors or applicant populations.
• Ability to exercise discretion and good judgment in confidential and sensitive matters.
• Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively as a member of a larger unit.
• Strong project management and organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively use a variety computer applications, databases, and web-related applications.
• Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines with little supervision.
• The ability to travel distances in excess of 100 miles to variety of venues.
• Bachelors Degree with three years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in a university, K-12, or community college setting preferred.

PREFERRED COMPENTENCIES
• Knowledge of UC admissions practices and procedures, including undergraduate evaluations.
• Knowledge of international educational systems.
• Working knowledge of student information system, as well as other student-based computing environments.
• Admissions experience with knowledge of transfer credit policies, a-g course lists and related university outreach and admission practices.
• Experience with the ASSIST web site (statewide articulation database)
• Knowledge of languages other than English.
