Cultural Information Specialist:
The Rumsey Indian Rancheria located in beautiful Brooks, CA (50 mi NW of
Sacramento CA.) is seeking a talented individual to take on the tasks
and responsibilities as their Cultural Resource Information Systems
(CRIS) Specialist. This individual is responsible for managing multiple
priorities involving cultural resource information systems to organize,
process and utilize information for cultural preservation. Duties
include specific tasks in several areas of responsibility: cultural
geography utilizing geographic information system (GIS) technology,
project coordination, data acquisition and storage of electronic records
for long-term preservation, current use and future retrieval, response
to site inquiries and tower notifications, and identify opportunities to
integrate multimedia to generate innovative perspectives in current site
protection work.
Qualifications/Requirements:
* BS or MA degree in GIS, Cartography, Computer Science, Anthropology
or related field
* Knowledge of PC and Macintosh operating systems
* Two or more years experience with GIS/digital mapping software
* Experience with Global Positioning System technology and
archaeological field survey methods
* Knowledge of digital still, digital video cameras, and audio recorders
* Knowledge of digital imaging, video and audio recording/editing
techniques
* Previous training/work with aerial photos, quad maps and topographic
maps
* Knowledge of the regional landscape
* Experience working with Tribal Elders/members; knowledge of Native
American traditions
* Ability to recognize and protect sensitive information
* General knowledge of public land survey system
* Good writing and grammatical skills
