Smithsonian Native American Community Scholars Awards

SCOPE: The Smithsonian Institution is inviting applications for
minority fellowships and internships using its collections.

DEADLINE: January 15 for the Latino Studies Fellowships. February 1
and October 1 for the Native American Community Scholars and Visiting
Student Awards
, the Minority Visiting Student Awards, and the James E.
Webb Internship Program.

FUNDS: The annual stipend for the Latino Studies Postdoctoral Fellows
and Senior Fellows is $42,000, and for Pre-doctoral Fellows is
$27,000.

Minority Visiting Student Awards and the James E. Webb Intership offer
a $500 weekly stipend for 10 weeks.

Native American Community Scholars Awards offer stipends of $150 per
day
for up to 21 days, a travel allowance, and a small research
allowance. Native American Visiting Student Awards offer stipends of
$150 per day for up to 21 days and $400 per week for three to 10
weeks, a travel allowance, and a small research allowance.

ELIGIBILITY: The Latino Studies Postdoctoral Fellowships are open to
U.S. Latino/a applicants who have or will have held the Ph.D. or
equivalent for less than seven years. Those who have held the Ph.D. or
equivalent for seven years or more are eligible for Senior
Fellowships. U.S. Latino/a students enrolled in a university as
candidates for the Ph.D. or equivalent are eligible for Pre-doctoral
Fellowships.

Minority Visiting Student Awards are open to advanced graduate
students from U.S. minority groups who are underrepresented in
Smithsonian scholarly programs, in the disciplines of research
conducted at the Institution, and in the museum field.

Native American Community Scholars Awards are open to Native Americans
who are formally or informally related to a Native American community.

Native American Visiting Student Awards are open to currently
enrolled, advanced Native American graduate students who are formally
or informally related to a Native American community.

The Webb Internships are open to minority undergraduate juniors and
seniors and graduate students in business and public administration.

AREAS: Fellowships in Latino Studies support research related to
Latino history, art, and culture using Smithsonian resources.

The Minority Awards support research or museum-related internship
projects under the supervision of Institution staff members. The James
E. Webb Internship Program promotes diversity in the management of
non-profit scientific and cultural institutions.
