The Ramona Band of Cahuilla has an open position for: 

JOB TITLE: Environmental Manager

SUMMARY: Responsible for the development, analyses and coordination of the Ramona Tribes' Environmental and Water Resources Departments. This includes working cooperatively in the recruitment and management of ongoing Federal grants and contacts in the areas of Natural Resource Protection, Environmental Protection, Clean Air and Clean Water funding from multiple Federal entities. Reports and is responsible t o the Tribal Council of the Ramona Band of Cahuilla Indians.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to write grants and seek funding to cover both General Assistance Program (GAP) and Clean Water Act (106) Grants
  • Assessment of overall environmental conditions on the Reservation.
  • Develop and maintain control measures to minimize or prevent pollution.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive tribal environmental plan that includes water resources management, wellhead protection, and non-point source pollution control.
  • Develop and maintain a solid waste management program.
  • Develop and maintain an air quality management program.
  • Develop and maintain emergency planning and response programs.
  • Provide public education and outreach programs.
  • Coordinate interagency and intertribal activities.
  • Attend meetings, conferences, seminars, and trainings in subjects related to environment, health and safety, and emergency preparedness.
  • Represent Ramona Band of Cahuilla in the capacity of Regional Tribal Operations Committee, Native American Environmental Protection Coalition (NAEPC) – Must be invited and approved by the Board of Directors,  and any other agencies or organization as needed and required by Ramona Band of Cahuilla.
  • Prepare annual grant applications and progress reports.
  • Work with Federal, State, and Local agencies to address environmental issues as directed by the Tribe.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: B.S. degree or higher preferred in one of the following subject areas: biology, chemistry, environmental sciences, engineering or equivalent.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: The ideal candidate must be able to work in a team environment and be a self-starter, with little supervision, must be computer literate (knowledge of Microsoft Office, GIS a plus), must have experience with analytical chemistry and/or microbiology, and must have excellent communications skills. Must possess the ability to write grants, routine reports and correspondence, to communicate effectively in both written and verbal form with scientific or technical consultants, federal project officers and before groups of tribal members or employees of the Ramona Tribe. Must have the ability to read, analyze and articulate scientific research and field data. Must maintain a current driver's license and minimum auto insurance required under applicable laws.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will occasionally work around skip-loaders, back-hoes, and well drilling rigs. The employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.

The position is required to stand; walk; use hands to finder, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and sit. The noise level in the work environment ranges from an indoor office environment to various noise level in the field.

The position will frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
