Thank you for your interest in Project Director for the 2007-2008 RAIN staff. The application procedure for RAIN Director requires the completion of this application and an in-person interview.  Applications are due on Friday, May 2nd by 5pm. All applications should be enclosed in a sealed envelope and delivered to the Retention Coordinators box in the Student Activities Center, Suite 105.  Qualified applicants will be contacted within two weeks following the submission of their applications for interviews. 

AISA recommends that RAIN Director Applicants possess some of the following qualities: 

      • A Bachelors Degree completed by the Summer of 2008 from an accredited university
      • Experience working with populations from diverse backgrounds, specifically the American Indian population
      • Working experience with student-initiated, student-run projects, and student groups
      • Student leadership experience
      • Counseling, peer advising and mentoring experience
      • Knowledge of UCLA academic, and/or financial aid policies
      • Knowledge of American Indian resources on and off-campus
      • Administrative skills, including computer proficiency, and experience with event planning, budget writing and management, meeting planning and facilitation

AISA also requires that all RAIN director applicants commit to the following responsibilities:

      • Available to start work on July 1, 2008
      • Work with the outgoing project director in writing summer budget proposal prior to July 1st hiring date.
      • Adopt AISA and RAIN philosophy and methodologies
      • Work forty hours per week
      • Complete designated tasks when necessary
      • Attend and conduct weekly staff meetings, weekly counseling meetings, AISA meetings, retreats, workshops, staff development meetings, Campus Retention Committee (CRC) meetings, Student Retention Center (SRC) Project Director Meetings and any other meetings required by AISA
      • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of AISA and/or RAIN events and activities
      • Assist in the coordination and facilitation of SRC/CRC events and activities
      • Compose a written evaluation on performance as RAIN director at least twice a quarter as required by the AISA RAIN Review Committee (RRC)
      • Attend two RAIN Review Committee meetings each quarter
      • Complete all necessary paperwork to track and maintain counseling caseloads

RAIN Director Job Description
 

The RAIN Director serves as the chief administrator of the RAIN project, the Director's primary responsibility is to oversee and ensure the collective development between Peer Counseling and Mentorship components.  The RAIN Director will oversee financial/fiscal progress and monitor staff log sheets.  The Director will prepare, attend and help facilitate staff meetings/retreats in order to ensure cohesiveness among the staff and project as a whole.  The Director will also provide input on behalf of RAIN to SRC/CRC meetings.  He/She will meet with each staff member and the RC on a one to one basis.  In addition, the Director will counsel and complete all counselor logistical work such as outreach and tracking.  The RAIN Director will also evaluate the project on mid-quarter, quarter, and annual evaluation.

Position:

The University of California, Irvine Department of History seeks
applicants for a part-time, one-year lecturer position in African History
for the 2008-09 academic year. The successful candidate will teach two
courses in African history: either both quarters of a two-quarter survey,
or one half of the survey (pre-colonial preferred) and one course in the
applicant's specialty. Specialized courses that intersect with the
department's strengths in gender history, environmental history, or

Biomedical Engineering Faculty

the Center will be new faculty positions in biomedical engineering

cardiovascular research, with evidence of translating this technology to

research in the broad areas of regenerative medicine and stem cell biology
over the next several years as part of a joint initiative by the Sue and
Bill Gross Stem Cell Research Center, the Developmental Biology Center,
and the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.

We seek outstanding candidates at the Assistant and Associate Professor
levels with a demonstrated track record in any of several broadly defined,
key areas important to regenerative medicine, such as niche biology,
asymmetric cell division, cancer stem cells, tissue engineering, cell
matrix interactions, developmental potency/epigenetics, signaling in stem
cells and organogenesis. Stem cell research, developmental biology and
cancer research have long histories of achievement at UC Irvine and the
university has received significant funding from the California Institute
of Regenerative Medicine. Core facilities within the Stem Cell Research
Center provide lab space for carrying out work that is currently
ineligible for federal funding.

Fire Education Teams Project Leader

Job Description:
Work in partnership with the BLM to achieve goals developing a Fire
Education program with one of three southern California counties. With the
high rate of fires in these counties and the number of homes in the
wildland-urban interface (WUI), property and lives are at stake as well as
the natural history and the environment. This is your chance to make a
difference in these high-risk areas. Work to educate the communities on
fire prevention and bring together key players in addressing fire
education. Each Fire Education team will be made up one project leader and
four team members. Current openings include:

* Riverside County: This position will be based out of Hemet, California.

Primary Responsibilities: Participating in community outreach activities
including attending community events and meetings, conducting home risk
evaluations, grassroots fire education initiatives, summer youth education
days, and assist with other conservation projects as needed. Assist with
the design, implementation and evaluation of the project. Create GIS maps
with imbedded home assessment information and using the home assessments
to prioritize the future WUI treatment options. Provide a positive, safe
and meaningful work environment for 4 SCA team members for three months.
Coordinate with agency and SCA program staff to orient and train members
in all aspects of the project. Assure project compliance with all SCA
operational standards. Collect data and complete a final program report
and evaluation.

Training Provided: Project Leaders will come together with SCA staff in
Boise, ID for a week long training on technical field skills and SCA
processes. Project Leaders will also join their teams in late May/early
June for a ten day team member training in McCall, ID.

Housing, Transportation, Other: Housing may be provided; transportation
for all work activities provided; personal transportation recommended.
Position involves long hours in the field working in all weather
conditions and in rough terrain.

Qualifications - Required: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work
experience; minimum age requirement 21 years old; field work/outdoor
experience; minimum of 2 years leadership experience; strong computer
skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills; attention to
detail; Wilderness First Responder/Aid and CPR certification; ability to
hike up to 6 miles/day over varied terrain. Valid driver's license and
driving record within SCA guidelines; ability to pass SCA background
check.


Qualifications - Preferred: Ability to take initiative and work both
independently and as part of a team; environmental education, outdoor
recreation, teaching or related experience; public speaking and community
outreach experience; knowledge about fire and/or fire ecology; minimum
impact camping skills; enthusiasm for the outdoors; budget management
experience; and a sense of adventure.

Dates: Start – April 1, 2008 End – September 5, 2008

Salary: Range from $26,000-$28,000 per year with seasonal benefits.
