Position:

The University of California, Irvine Department of History seeks
applicants for a part-time, one-year lecturer position in African History
for the 2008-09 academic year. The successful candidate will teach two
courses in African history: either both quarters of a two-quarter survey,
or one half of the survey (pre-colonial preferred) and one course in the
applicant's specialty. Specialized courses that intersect with the
department's strengths in gender history, environmental history, or
global/transnational history are encouraged. The salary is $5259.25 per
course (based on an annual 9 month salary of $42,074.00).

Preferred qualifications: A Ph.D. in African history plus college-level
teaching experience. Candidates who are ABD will also be considered.
